Michelle is a Colorado native and her family has resided here for over 100 years. As a resident of Colorado, she recognizes the astounding beauty of her state and hopes that visitors and fellow residents can appreciate Colorado as much as she does. Perhaps the most amazing sight in Colorado is the gold found in the Rocky Mountains--not the gold that has been prospected over the centuries, but the glittering Aspen Trees. Their autumn leaves are a profoundly beautiful sight. Michelle wants to give you the opportunity to take a souvenir home, to remember the beautiful aspen trees. Each time you look at your handmade piece, it will bring you back to the Colorado Mountains. She cannot duplicate the astounding sight of the aspen trees, but she hopes she can give you a memory that will last a life time. Her pieces capture a beauty that most people would never see, and symbolize that beauty is not only "bark" deep. Inside the white bark lies something remarkable, which she brings out in her strikingly beautiful vases and bowls. Michelle finds, clears out, and uses standing dead aspen trees. This allows the other vibrant living trees to flourish, so that both wildlife and sightseers can benefit from their beauty and abundance. Each raw piece of aspen log is hand-turned on a wood lathe and, as the piece of wood turns very quickly, is carved with a chisel into a bowl or vase. A "secret" satin finish keeps the wood from splitting. This finish is applied in three distinct steps to create a beautiful and durable product.
