 ABOUT KATHY BONNER...
Because her dad was in the military, and because she later married a military man, Kathy has lived in many places—Illinois, Panama, Germany, Texas, Mississippi, Wyoming, Washington, Oklahoma, Alaska, and finally settling here in Colorado. Which place is her favorite? Wyoming!
Kathy is completely self-taught. After painting for awhile, she began doing wildlife photography in Alaska, which inspired painting even more. She worked in oils, but found she was too impatient for the drying process of those, and changed to watercolors. Birch bark from Alaska has been one of her favorite surfaces on which to paint with watercolors! While in Alaska in the 1980’s, she designed a coin for the Northern Warfare Training Center (NWTC).
She has always been interested in the Southwest, even before living anywhere near it. In the last 10 years she has focused on painting and decorating Southwestern Gourds, doing everything from cleaning the raw gourd to the final, beautiful product. She designs them, paints them, and/or applies Southwestern objects. They are high quality, hand made pieces and each finished gourd is one-of-a-kind.
